Entering the New Year at the worlds largest beach party on Copacabana beach is one of the most mind-blowing experiences and definitely one of the best New Years parties a city has to offer. After spending a fair share of NYE experiences in London, where overwhelming crowds gather onto the embankment to watch the fireworks, the freezing temperatures leaving people crankier than usual, people pushing from every direction and then shouting at you for pushing them; it's a strange experience and now one you actually have to pay for. Nice try London but I think we'll skip it this year...

Copacabana Revellion
Brazilian's answer to New Years Eve celebrations is the complete opposite. Carioca's and tourists gather together at the famous Copacabana beach for the celebrations and dance their way into the New Year. The atmosphere is incredible - music blasts from the stages set across the beach and people around you samba in the sand. A sea of white stretches down the coast, as everyone is dressed traditionally in white, to welcome the new year with peace and renewal. Smiles are all around as people down their caipirinhas and cervejas and drop their lilies into the ocean, a gift to the Goddess of the Sea.

Top Tips
Wear white to fully immerse yourself into the experience
Head down to Copacabana Beach at around 10-11pm to enjoy the music and vibe at the beachfront
Don't feel like you need to bring alcohol to the beach - just grab a beer from the vendors
After the craziness of Copacabana, maybe head over to Ipanema for more chilled out dance vibes
